Tom Field's Camp Paradox Visit - June, 2000

Vacationing near Ticonderoga near Lake George last week, I couldn't resist driving down 73 to visit the camp.  This visit wasn't much different than my last one: a little disappointing (there's so little left) and somewhat disorienting (the topography has been largely obliterated by  trees.)

I took a Sony digital camera which captured the photos below.  I met once again with Alan, who lives in Larry's cottage.  I photographed some of his memorabilia.   He's a big fan of the Camp.

Things I wish I'd done:  walked from the Program Office towards the bunk line and looked for remnants of the old camp (note: this would be tresspassing on private residences), walked down to the swimming and boating areas.

Monogram from the Rodger's Hall stage curtain.  Do any of you remember seeing this on the curtain?Alan:  "I found it in a heap, on an outside porch, covered with pigeon droppings..."

The side of Larry's cabin where Alan lives when he's up visiting.   The door to the right is where the cook (for some years, an enoromous bar bouncer named Ramsey Tucker) lived. (Billy Rice was a close buddy to Ramsey.   Actually, I'm surprised that Billy hasn't shown up here on the site.)

The Program Office. (Is that what we called it? Where we assembled nightly to lower the flag.)

The front of the Program Office.

The Chez.  Notice the forest in the background? That's the baseball field below Cabin 15.

Alex and Ann's cabin. Except for the satellite dish, it looked so much like I remembered it that I half expected one of them to come strolling out onto the porch!
